Dr. Jason Whiting founded Adventure Education Solutions in an effort to provide a space where kids can experience the benefits of wholesome recreational activities while also learning about the natural environment.
Jason loves being able to connect people with nature and wild places, especially youth who are disconnected from the outdoors. He says, “Seeing the joy as children experience snow for the first time or accomplish hard things in outdoor environments makes me happy and motivates me to do all that we can to provide additional programs and services to benefit others.”
Jason is a Professor in the Recreation Administration Department at California State University, Fresno. Jason holds graduate degrees from The University of Georgia and Western Illinois University and an undergraduate degree from Western State College of Colorado.
Before completing his bachelor’s degree, Jason lived in Venezuela for two years as a missionary working with the Venezuelan people and studying Spanish. Following his time abroad and before returning to his education, Jason worked in the field of recreation as a municipal park programmer, river guide, wilderness EMT, and assistant director for the Georgia Outdoor Recreation Program.
Jason’s research has examined the social world of whitewater kayaking, constraints of racial/ethnic minorities in outdoor recreation, physical activity participation in marginalized populations, and other topics relating to human dimensions of natural resource management. Jason has presented research at dozens of conferences and published in multiple scholarly journals.
Jason enjoys spending time with his wife and four children. Jason is also an avid outdoorsman and enjoys participating in whitewater kayaking, skiing, mountaineering, hunting, and carpentry.
